Irises
NOTE: Due to quarantine requirements we do not shipped daylilies, irises, trees, shrubs and perennials to Tasmania & West Australia and overseas. We shipped only differents seeds to Tasmania, West Australia and overseas.
All daylilies and Irises are posted & supplied bare-rooted. Daylilies and irises are posted to New South Wales, Queensland, Northern Territory, South Australia and Victoria only.
Louisiana Iris
Louisiana iris: Are a spring-flowering, evergreen perennial with fresh green, handsome sword-like foliage which make them an excellent landscaping accent plant. The flowering spike is usually held above the foliage and blooms open in random order up and down the spike. Each of the 3 to 5 bud places holds at least two buds. Each bud should flower for 2 to 3 days. They also make excellent cut flowers. These irises are relatively disease-free and are very adaptable. They will grow in full sun, part shade, in the garden, next to a pond or in a pot in water. The height of the cultivars can vary from 65 cm to 1.7 metres and some will re-bloom in the autumn and winter. Our bloom season is from September to mid-November, but bloom sequence can vary depending on the cultivar you have chosen, the location of your garden and when you purchased your plants. These irises can be grown in Northern Queensland, down the east coast of Australia and in South and Western Australia provided they are mulched against all extremes in temperature. Tropical areas of Darwin are also fine - as are the frost prone inland areas of the mainland and Tasmania. Summer humidity is no problem. You can fertilize with slow- release products, commercial camellia/ azalea food, alfalfa pellet products plus blood and bone in autumn and late winter for best results. Plant rhizomes below the ground, keep them constantly moist and well mulched. They are greedy feeders and can be left undisturbed for three to four years, after which they benefit from being lifted and divided and re-planted into fresh acidic soil. This can be done at any time of the year, but is best done in autumn. REMEMBER - NO LIME! Full cultural notes are provided free with every order.
Water Irises, Species and Hybrids
Water iris: Suitable for water or boggy conditions or normal moist garden beds.
Siberian iris: Like:1. Full Sun. They will not flower in shade. 2.Good Loamy soil. 3. Good drainage all year. 4. To be kept moist all year, but not wet. 5. A pH range of 5.5-7.6. An application of balanced fertilizer and or old manure in Spring and Autumn. 7. Frosty winters or they won't flower well. 8 Planting from late January through to August. 9. To be left in one place for several years.
Grow well in areas of Australia such as Victoria, Southern South Australia, most inland of NSW and frosty areas of Queensland. Hardy to cold climates with extreme heat in the summer. Very adaptable group of iris is that they are easy, they are best planted in full sun. Many people preferred them for floral art than any other iris. An established clump can give more than 100 bloom spikes. Totally dormant in winter for about 10-12 weeks. New growth begins to emerge about mid to late August and they will flower.
Woodland Irises
(PLANTS UNDER TREES)
Woodland iris (Plant under trees) : Suitable for semi-shade with morning sun, summer sun will burn their foliage. Protect them from winter winds. Do not like lime. Mulch them and do not let them dry out particularly in the first year that they are establishing themselves. Thrives in 'dry or damp woodlands' condition. They are all beautiful in wide ribbed foliage and flowers in pale shades of bluish, mauve to white. They are all hardy.
